Zat'nik'tel

<span class="SFPTagline"> From SCIFIPEDIA </span>

(Redirected from Zat'ni'katel)

A Zat'nik'tel, more commonly called a zat gun, is a frequently used energy weapon in the TV series Stargate SG-1. The zat is a Goa'uld weapon similar to but less powerful than the Goa'uld Staff Weapon. It is slightly larger than a pistol, and is shaped like a coiled symbiote with the tail end as the handle. It has two positions, open and closed. When primed to fire, the upper portion rises and emits a sound indicating it's ready for use. When fired, it produces a blue-colored beam of energy. The zat is a rapid-fire weapon.

The weapon is usually used to stun. One shot stuns the target and causes enormous pain. A second shot, if made within a short period of time after the first, kills. A third shot results in disintegration of the target, although this option is rarely used.

The power source is likely a liquid naquadah cell, similar to the ones inside the staff weapons.

The zat is used mostly by Jaffa, although SGC personnel also use the weapon with increasing regularity.
