One of the most famous creatures of cryptozoology, the yeti (aka “The Abominable Snowman”) is essentially the Himalayan Bigfoot. A yeti is a large, bipedal creature thought to roam the high mountains of the region. Due to the rugged and remote geography, sightings are not frequent and evidence is scarce. Nevertheless, the yeti is an extremely popular and enduring creature in both Western and Eastern legend.
Popularly conceived in America as a tall, hulking white-furred hairy biped in the Himalayas, the conception in Tibet and the surrounding areas is more complex. Legends of several types of animals have been lumped together, as well as a likely combining of beliefs about flesh-and-blood animals and supernatural beings.
Most reports are from yak herders living in the mountainous regions of Bhutan. Bunches and strands of hair that were found and sent for DNA testing returned with a conclusion of "unknown species."
Additional rumors include that of a woman in the valley of Bumthang, who had disappeared for several years when she was young. Her claim is that for the years that she was lost, she was actually a captive of the yeti.
The “Abominable Snowman” term is a mistranslation of a more benign local name, and has contributed to the Western view of it as a monster.
Entities like the Yeti (known collectively as Hairy Bipeds, among other references) are also spotted in Florida in the Everglades. But this Yeti is formally known as the Skunk Ape. This Yeti has been spotted in Canada and almost all of the United States Of America. The Skunk Ape has the smell of a skunk so when he is near you will smell that skunk smell. This is the only known bigfoot that will live in the everglades. Bigfoot really like to be in the woods away from civilization.
Sci Fi works have mentioned the Abominable Snowman (and related Tibetan creatures), from Jonny Quest to Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer to H.P. Lovecraft.
