Wraith dart

<span class="SFPTagline"> From SCIFIPEDIA </span>

(Redirected from Wraith Dart)

A Wraith dart is a small multipurpose fighter interceptor craft designed by the Wraith for the purpose of culling humans and defending hive ships. The craft is piloted by a single Wraith and is capable of extreme speeds in space and planetary atmosphere. The ships are called darts because of their shape, coming to narrow point at the front of the vessel. They are also notable for the unique high-pitched drone they make when flying in atmosphere.

Each Wraith dart is equipped with technology vital to their purpose of quickly and efficiently capturing humans for transport to Wraith hive ships: A stun weapon, similar to Wraith stun rifles, and a wide sweeping culling beam. Culling beams are used in different ways than the Asgard transporters installed on Earth vessels. The culling beam appears to be designed specifically to transport humans in motion and it does so quickly and efficiently. Individuals are then stored in the ships buffer for later reconstitution. This same method is used to transport other Wraith from hive ships to planets.

Darts, like puddle jumpers are flown using a mental interface. Unlike Ancient vessels however, the controls are not activated by a unique gene. As a result, the craft can be piloted by skilled humans like John Sheppard in "The Lost Boys".
