A wraith is a mythical undead creature, sometimes a ghost that comes back to the world of the living to avenge its own death.

In fiction

In some fantasy fiction or legend, they are considered omen spirits.

Not all wraiths are in spirit form. Some have a physical appearance as an undead being raised to serve its master.

But, unlike zombies which have a full physical body a wraiths has very limited physical form.

The head and face of a wraith is usually little more than a dense mass of air or black smoke.

In parapsychology

In addition to the undead creature usage, in parapsychology, "wraith" is a term used on occasion to denote the astral body of those who can astral project. It appears as an apparition.
