William Friedkin (b, August 29, 1935 in Chicago, Illinois) is an Academy Award-winning American director best known for having directed the 1973 film The Exorcist and The French Connection. Friedkin won an Oscar for The French Connection and was nominated for The Exorcist.
Friedkin began his career in television in the 1960s directing TV Movies and an episode of The Alfred Hitchcock Hour. His other work includes directing episodes of The Twilight Zone, Tales from the Crypt, and the films Blue Chips, Jailbreakers, The Hunted, Rules of Engagement and the 2006 horror feature Bug.
