Wes Craven (b. August 2, 1939) is an American horror director, actor, writer, and producer born in Cleveland, Ohio. He is well-known for his genre work, in particular for the original A Nightmare on Elm Street, which introduced horror icon Freddy Krueger The character appeared in several sequels including Freddy vs. Jason, New Nightmare, Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare, A Nightmare on Elm Street: The Dream Child , A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master and A Nightmare on Elm Street Part 2: Freddy's Revenge. He directed Swamp Thing and the Scream series. He ventured into television with his Nightmare Cafe series.
