Chief Master Sergeant Walter Harriman is a fictional character in the series Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis played by Gary Jones. Strangely, his uniform tag occasionally read "Davis" and the writers referred to him as Norman Davis. Jack O'Neill called him Walter in the episode "2010" and in later episodes, he was addressed as Sergeant Harriman.
Walter is a U.S. Air Force officer assigned to Stargate Command.
He performed navigation and automatic flight control operations during the Gulf War and later joined the SGC. He is a technician in charge of gate operations and the dialing computer. In the series' 200th episode he describes the extent of his job as: "Well, basically when the gate is dialing, I say 'chevron one encoded', 'chevron two encoded', and so on, incrementally, up to the seventh chevron, um, which is a little different, because that's when the wormhole connects. Uh, when that happens, I like to change things up a little bit and just say, 'chevron seven locked.'"
