Volians are a simple agrarian race of humans, in the Stargate universe, on the verge of extinction. Only a few thousand remain on their planet, once home to millions. The remaining Volians farm their planet for their own use but mostly for the Aschen Confederation.

The Volians were once a society on par with early twentieth century Earth when the Aschen visited their planet in ships. The Aschen offered them membership in the Aschen confederation and the Volians accepted. The Aschen also gave the Volians an anti-aging vaccine that extended the human life span significantly. They soon discovered the drug made most of the population sterile. They attempted to fight back but the Aschen quelled their protest.

With most of the Volians gone, the Aschen terraformed the planet, covering even the urban areas to create farmland. The remaining Volians have no memory or knowledge of the Aschen's destruction of their society. If not for Daniel Jackson's investigations of a buried Volian city, it is likely Earth would have suffered a similar fate as seen in the episode "2010."
