Virtuality is a two-hour TV series pilot written by Ronald D. Moore and sold to Fox. The pilot , to be directed by Peter Berg, begins filming in July 2008 and will be produced by Gail Berman and Lloyd Braun. The idea for the series was inspired by Braun.
The series centers on ten astronauts on a ten-year journey on board the Phaeton to a nearby solar system. To occupy their minds on the long journey, NASA has devised a virtual reality pod that allows them to take on various identities and adventures. The mission appears to be going well until a bug is discovered in the system.
The backdoor pilot will star James D'Arcy as Roger Fallon, the Phaeton's psych officer, who produces the virtual-reality shows. Also appearing in the pilot is New Amsterdam star Nikolaj Coster-Waldau as Frank Pike, the Phaeton's commander, Erik Jensen as the ship's navigator, Jose Pablo Cantillo as a mathematician and Clea DuVall as the Phaeton's co-pilot and engineer.
