2007

Will do, Bufo.

I'm all for goals about learning new things. Sometimes we rely on our strengths and keep coming back to the things we do best, not realizing we have secret superpowers that can only be revealed through trying something new. And hey, it's a new year—perfect time for it.

I hadn't had a chance yet to thank you for the New Year's wishes. Hope you had a fun celebration. I had a glass of champagne with friends. Good thing champagne is reserved for big occasions—I love the bubbles!

Response to your query on Super speed

Hello. I changed "Super-Speed" to "super speed" for two reasons:

  1. Grammar: The "-" in super-speed is only used when the phrase is an adjective (super-speed running).
  2. Super Speed - with the capital S on Speed (weather spelled as SuperSpeed or Super Speed) is a registered trademark of Super Speed Software, Incorporated. And in my experience on various wiki projects since 2002, over use of capitals tends to confuse readers. Is the topic of the article a proper noun (title, brand) or not?

Over at Wikipedia, through trial and error we came upon a couple conclusions:

  1. Capitalization: Less really is more. People associate Capitalization of letters in words other than the first letter with proper nouns, such as titles and brand names. In wiki markup - use of capitals in the article names makes writing of other articles cumbersome and adds needless work. For instance - when we have science fiction . Of course redirects are always possible - but as this project grows, redirects from a more popular usage to the "official" less popular usage uses up server bandwidth and tends to slow down sites, and it's really unneeded since most people write "science fiction" in lower case to begin with.
  2. Plurals: Avoid when you can. I also have been getting rid of as many unneeded plurals as possible: i.e. Artist instead of Artists -- for two reasons. 1) the most common usage will be "artist" and not its plural. 2) It leads to the possibility for duplication (two articles, one topic - and at least one writer who did a lot of hard work for naught).
  3. Disambiguation pages: Use only when needed. They a great resources when used properly under the correct article name. For instance, everyone agreed there should be a "Star Wars" disambiguation page - but should it be located at Star Wars or at Star Wars (disambiguation)? Probably the latter since an article about the overview of the Star Wars phenomenon is probably more fitting at the main Star Wars name. In addition other disambig pages may be created without a real purpose - particularly in projects of limited scope. (for instance, we don;t need a disambig on "super speed" to include a disk cache server.)

I always try to keep in mind that we are creating something to be used by someone else and should cater our content to their expectations - which means adopting most of the useful habits of successful websites. Sorry for rambling. Have a great day. - Davodd 18:42, 9 January 2007 (EST)

TV Series

I do see the value of having the listings in the TV Series category but one of the reasons I was hoping to remove the lists TV series from the main category is because I think it's getting cluttered. I was really hoping to create enough categories to cover most genres and divisions to make browsing simple. I think I've come up with a secondary solution. I'll add an alphabetic table of contents to the category which should help the situation. --MarshAngel 08:19, 10 January 2007 (EST)

Listings

I'm not sure what list you're referring to. I was referring to adding a template to the category so you could navigate alphabetically like the one here. I have no interest in forcing anyone to navigate solely by decade. My original thought was to allow navigation by network, genre, and several other additional categories. It's not an all or nothing idea however. I don't have any objections to returning the TV series to the original category. --MarshAngel 09:04, 10 January 2007 (EST)

I'm glad to contribute to my favorite scifi show. Thanks for editing my contributions. I have no idea how to use this site soany help is appreciated.

Thanks Again,

Y4K!

Maybe you're right about acceleration. I'm certainly amazed we are at 4,000 articles so quickly. I've noticed that you've been working with others on infrastructure like categories and capitalization, helping smooth the way things get done. I feel like I'm on board a train, talking to the engineers and purser to keep things stocked up, while you and the others keep the train steaming forward. Glad you're here!

Candy

Thanks for making me laugh! That was an inspired video, worth sharing. The soundtrack really iced the cake. I've been imagining SCIFIpedia more as an ocean-going vessel, plying the worldwide waters. Cruiser, train, or ornithopter, it's all good!

Birds of a Feather...double-flocking

May I suggest you merge your article Birds of a Feather (Dresden Files episode) with my article, Birds of a Feather (The Dresden Files episode)? I think my content can work with your plan.  :)

Ancient mysteries

Bufo,

Thanks for the compliment and help regarding the Ancient mysteries article. And thanks for creating the category of Ancient Mysteries.

Re: Dresden

Thanks to you and Davodd for staying on top of the Dresden Files!

Would either of you care to create book entries for the Dresden books? I uploaded the cover images a few days ago.

Thanks,

Re: Spirit

Bufo,
I agree that generally a spirit would be an incorporeal entity but there are other examples:
http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/spirit
Dictionary.com Unabridged
6. a fairy, sprite, or elf.
American Heritage Dictionary
1.
e. A fairy or sprite.
4. A supernatural being, as:
c. A fairy or sprite.
--Lorekeeper 15:43, 26 January 2007 (EST)
Also, thanks for discussing this with me. Many people would have just done an edit. Your courtesy is appreciated.
--Lorekeeper 15:51, 26 January 2007 (EST)

ISBNs

Bufo,

I added the 13 digit ISBNs to the books you listed on the William Roll page (the 13 digit ones are replacing the old 10 digit ISBNs). You may already know this but the ISBN creates an automatic link to the Scifipedia Book sources page where there are links to Barnes & Noble and Amazon.com, amongst others. The ISBN is remembered and when you click on one of the bookstore links, it takes you directly to that book's page. By the way, the Amazon.com link is not currently working. I posted a notice on Candy's talk page and while I was there I noticed the kind compliment you gave me, thanks.

--Lorekeeper 20:05, 28 January 2007 (EST)

You may want to start incorporating these ISBNs into your book listings. Just a suggestion. --Lorekeeper 20:16, 28 January 2007 (EST)
I just added a section on the help page entitled Book Links and ISBNs. --Lorekeeper 03:12, 29 January 2007 (EST)

Spoiler templates

Hey, thanks for the copy edit on Night of the Comet. I noted you also changed the template {{spoilersm}} to {{Spoilers}}. Just to clarify, unlike other errors in that article, it was not a typo and did not need fixed. Template:Spoiler is for articles without an info box. Template:Spoilersm (Small spoiler box) is for articles that do have an info box to eliminate the large white space that happened with the wide version. Just a note for the future so you don't inadvertently make the same mistake again. Again, thanks for the typo check. - Davodd 01:22, 4 February 2007 (EST)

Thanks again for your help, I'm getting the hang of it and I started to write the articles myself instead of jusy copying and pasting. vsavar 12:50, 4 February 2007 (CST)

Thanks for catching the Sleestak stuff

Thanks again. I'll be taking a break from SFP for a while .. it seems I am irritating people and do not want to be disruptive to a project that is just in its infancy. I may be back in a few months after more people have joined in on the fun. - Davodd 16:08, 4 February 2007 (EST)

You made me laugh! But anime is usually better in Japanese. Admittedly I don't always understand what's going on and why . . . even dubbed.

Happy Birthday to You!

Wish on your candles and it will come true.

I like what you've done with Alien Contact: Top-Secret UFO Files Revealed; the list of topics is a helpful feature.

And thanks for pointing out my slip-up with the 2/11, 12, and 13 dates. Oops! But you've got to love how easy it is to fix things in SCIFIpedia. Back in the day, I'd have been rushing upstairs, proofs in hand, conferring with the designer and all sorts of ruckus.

The weather is wonderful. Spring is my favorite season; I've got snowdrops blooming and a Steller's jay to wake me up in the morning.

Many happy returns of the day,

Dear to your heart

Hi, Bufo,

I don't know if you check out the SCIFIpedia entries on the main SCIFI.COM page, but one of tomorrow's (probably tomorrow's) should be one that brings a few views to an article you'd like to see climbing the ranks.

Hope things are going well with you. —Candy

Amazon

Bufo,

I haven't confirmed this but I remember way back when that a decision was taken that the link-to-Amazon feature wouldn't be active, although I can't quite recall what the concern was. It's something I mean to bring up, so thanks for reminding me now and then. I keep on marveling at how 2007 is flourishing.

Hi, Bufo, glad to hear you're all right. It's a scary feeling when the solidity you've paid no attention to suddenly rivets your attention.

Your reasoning sounds good, and I think you should go with terminology as a category description. I like it.

Have fun,

Double-plus good.

Hey, Bufo,

I noticed the Universes template popping up in the Batman department—nice work!

At that rate, you could give

Sylvia Browne a run for her money!

It hasn't been such a bunch of fun because it's a health issue in my family, but yesterday's surgery went well and it's a fabulous sunny day today, and I think everything's going to be all right. More High School Sci Fi

Hi Bufo,

Of course I'll wait until you add more before I make it a feature. It's too much fun to jump the gun.

I always thought that anime was the most cheerfully blatant high-school wish-fulfillment fantasy ever—it's pretty much mandatory to blow up the high school at least once in any given series, right?

—Candy
Cashanundudyub 13:40, 24 March 2007 (EDT)

High School Sci Fi

I have have been involved in SF fandom for more than 20 years and never heard of High School Sci Fi. Are you prospsing it as a specific subset of or is it different from Juvenile Sci Fi, which explores the same themes and has the same history? Davodd 17:38, 26 March 2007 (EDT)

SG-1

Thank you... There are some days I wish the series didn't have ten seasons. Quite a bit left to go, but I suppose it will get done eventually.

Books, trailers, con tickets . . .

Bufo, when you dream, you dream big! I like your ideas. We could become a genre megalolopolis.

Did you hide eggs or Easter baskets today? Can you imagine a family where the child hunting for her basket of chocolate is a remote viewer? Come to think of it, how did I find the basket that time they hid it inside the washing machine? I don't think it took me more than 45 seconds.

Lower Case episode titles

I actually prefer the lower case but there were already so many links I just continued for consistency's sake. It will be quite a project redirecting them but a worthwhile one.

Vacation!

Hey, Bufo, lucky you to be three thousand miles from home. I hope you're having a ton of fun. A coconut toast to you!

I'm very excited about our paranormal category. I'm looking forward to seeing more articles about precognition and other amazing abilities. Speaking of amazing, did you catch this video? It's a reminder of the vastness of human potential.

Aloha nui loa!
Candy (Cashanundudyub 19:33, 11 April 2007 (EDT))

Savants

I know what you mean about a big leap. I guess my take on it is that we don't really know how a savant does what he does (as in that video) and we don't know how any of the phenomena we classify as paranormal work, either. Is remote viewing really a whole different category of ability from photographic-memory sketching? Joseph McMoneagle's books imply that RV is a trainable skill, although some might be better at it than others. I think it's more that there is social acceptance of savants' abilities whereas what we lump together as "psychic" abilities come along with a nitroglycerin-loaded barrel of skepticism.

I haven't seen the movie Phenomenon, sounds like a fun one. I'll definitely check out Tammet.

Teleportation

Thanks, Bufo! I hadn't heard of 4D Man, looks like it will fill the bill quite well. Maybe when the movie version of Jumper comes out, we'll have a teleportation image that's strictly human-generated.

episode templates

Hey, Bufo,
I think you've picked a good project. I'm hoping MarshAngel will give us some pointers in smoothing out templates. She's shown a great deal of expertise with them.

—Candy (Cashanundudyub 18:11, 20 April 2007 (EDT))

Thank you, Mr. QA

Bufo,

Thanks for catching the slip-ups in the Journal dates. I think I've got them sorted out now.

Best,
Candy
Cashanundudyub 11:16, 27 April 2007 (EDT)

Episode Template

The episode template I used for Stargate is generic so it can be applied to any series. I save time and lazily just copy the template from each episode and just copy over the particulars. Davodd designed the template and I used his guide to create the TV series template. I edited The Howling Man (Twilight Zone episode) .

Hope that helped. --MarshAngel 17:30, 28 April 2007 (EDT)

IMDB

I noticed you created a new entry for IMDB.com, you might want to consider merging it with the previously existing article: Internet Movie Database since your entry is a bit more detailed.

You're so right, Bufo. What Links Here is a very useful but somehow forgettable link. I'd passed it by for many months, then used it just the other day for something.

As for D'oh-Ments :), I enjoy my moments of insight, and although it's true that in some cases those moments could have occurred earlier, I'm glad to have them whenever they turn up. . . . And sometimes it's the same one . . . again. . . .

Hi!

Things are going well, and I hope the same for you. I'm glad you pointed out the potential free time on the part of educators and educatees over summer break. I'll give it some thought.

If you hadn't heard word of it yet, I wanted to mention that SCI FI is starting "Ani-Mondays" on June 11 with Ghost in the Shell: Solid State Society. I'm hoping it's finally time for anime to become a popular part of the channel's offerings.

Articletitle

Thank you for the heads-up! I use that as a placeholder before I get the featured articles in place, and it didn't cross my mind that it would affect the Wanted list. Only a temporary effect (depending on how my workday goes!).

Whales & Prices

The Jonathon/Jonathan misspelling is a particular brain stall of mine. It's just one of those name/words that just I never get right on the first try. I'll merge the articles.

The Welsh actors category is a definite subcategory of British Actors. In fact, I don't think it's necessary to have both listed on an article. Welsh Actors should, naturally, lead to British actors. It keeps things neat and specific.

--MarshAngel 18:23, 6 June 2007 (EDT)

the God issue

Just to be clear, I chose "fictional" to indicate the difference between gods worshiped currently or historically ie. Zeus, Ra, Ganesh etc. as opposed to made up ones, like Chocolatin... which I just made up but really do worship :)

But I have no issue with changing it to Sci Fi Gods since there are already similar references... and now I must go pray to the chocolate chip cookie.

--MarshAngel 16:00, 7 June 2007 (EDT)

Thanks for pitching in . . .

on the Jersey Devil article, Bufo!

I just added some material to the Bigfoot subcategory, but I feel like there's a bit of overlap among the various Bigfoot, Sasquatch, and Hairy Biped articles and categories. Don't be shy about shuttling stuff around to reorganize this topic, if you would like to tackle it. I don't have much background knowledge, and I think it might benefit from a top-down approach.

Hi! I hope I'm doing this right (I'm new as you know). I just wanted to say thank you for the welcome. I'm glad you liked the article. It took a while to find all of that information, so I'm very happy it went over well. Thank you for the advice as well. It was very helpful.

Thanks again, ScurrilousPhantom

Enrollment

Thanks, Bufo, I've passed along a heads-up about the enrollment difficulty. Maybe we can arrange a time to sort of walk through it with the person so we can pinpoint just what it is that's going wrong so we can correct it for others.

Good job on the actor retrofitting, and feel free to plunge in retrofitting the Bigfoot material, as well. I think it's more important that we have the material understandably organized and accessible rather than preserving historical layers of contributions. After all, we have all the people who'll come here looking for information to think about, and they deserve our best in terms of presenting the information in good order when they look for it.

The skepticism article . . . I am glad you took the time to read over the discussion about it. I think Atlanteanunicorn understood my intention, which was to encourage contributing in an appropriate way for an encyclopedia.

Have a great weekend!

Re: "wondering why you linked the Paranormal Travel Guides article to the Bigfoot and Jersey Devil"

I think you mean you are wondering why I linked TO the Paranormal Travel Guide article from them. I did it because they are regional U.S. paranormal beings that are covered in guides. I thought the idea was to get as much traffic flowing as possible. If you feel these links are inappropriate, please feel free to remove them.

Thank you so very much for your help with the Connie Murphy profile. It looks very professional and it also makes me look like I know what I'm doing - which, of course, I don't have a clue!

I never intended that personality stuff to be scientific in any way. That page is strictly for entertainment purposes only. I wrote it because one of the Admins on the Dresden Files Forums encouraged us to show our support for the show.

I was wondering how to describe a character that was created after another character in a book series - only the TV show character is very different than the book character that she is named after. I am much more familiar with the Karrin Murphy from The Dresden Files books than I am with Connie Murphy from the TV show. I came up with the Myers-Briggs personality profiles as a fun way to demonstrate that I am watching the show.

I seriously doubt that I will ever write another thing for SciFi again. There just wouldn't be any motivation for me to do so. I like the SciFi Channel, but I don't watch very many of their shows. I usually prefer to read science fiction/fantasy than to watch it on TV.

Anyway, thank you very much for your help. You Rock!

I tend to forget which way I ordered the filmographies the last time I did them and do them in the way they seem right at the moment. I suppose a standard direction would be reasonable... I'll try and get my brain to cooperate with that.

The Flying Saucer age

Hi Bufo,

Thanks for the tip. I will include it!

If you want to while away some recovery time, there's a repository of UFO-related stuff at SCIFI that could be channeled into some useful articles. It was called the UFOlogy Resource Center.

Hope the installation of your third eye—or info-socket, or extra pair of typing hands—went well and you'll be out and about in no time.

Feel better soon!

UFOlogy resource center

I believe it's safe to use, since it used to be an active part of SCIFI.COM. Don't link to it directly, though, because unused archives tend not to be dependably found at the same spot (or sometimes ever again).

Have fun!

Re: Bufo's WEIRD WORLD

I'm going to be traveling and may be offline for awhile. I'll get back to you before long and we'll get something up.

Only ten years?

Doesn't it seem like Harry Potter has been part of the fantasy landscape forever? It does to me. I'm looking forward to the movie, I've enjoyed all of them so far.

It's officially summer—time for the most explosive movies of the year.

Master of Tholians

I love to see a genius organizer given free rein and rejoicing in creating order. :)

And, speaking of order, would you like me to archive the first hundred of your User talk messages as I've done with mine? It's fine as it is if it doesn't slow you down, but the offer's there if it would improve things for you.

—Candy (Cashanundudyub 23:32, 26 June 2007 (EDT))

Archiving

I'll leave it in your hands. If you'd rather be stepped through it, I'd be happy to.

You'd probably laugh to see my desk. I know that technically an In tray is not meant to be a storage tray, but . . .

Best,
Candy (Cashanundudyub 12:15, 27 June 2007 (EDT))

The Penguin

I have started doing comic book villains, and have completed the Penguin article that you started. Check it out.

To make it consistant with my Joker article, I would like to change the article title to just "Penguin" instead of "The Penguin". Do you know how to do this?

Larry7639 01:13, 30 June 2007 (EDT)

Robby Reed!

I remember Robby very well. The H-Dial has popped up a number of times in the DC Universe over the years. There was even a rather dark mini-series about it a few years ago, and it once turned out that a Legionnaire actually got her powers from the H-Dial. Still, there are probably more current subjects to be done first. Its bad enough that I promised Candy that I would do Bizarro Superman No. 1!

Still, whenever someone starts an article in the Comics section, I do feel compelled to finish it. That's how I ended up doing Beppo, Perry White, Alfred, and the Penguin!

Re: Bufo's WEIRD WORLD

Greetings Bufo,

Do you have a link or links where I may glean info for the article on you and your world?

--Lorekeeper 11:06, 3 July 2007 (EDT)

Books and ISBNs

Bufo,

Since you are such a prolific editor here and your user page is viewed a great deal, I wanted to politely request that you include the listing of books and ISBNs to your tips section.

--Lorekeeper 11:11, 3 July 2007 (EDT)

Waking....

Yeah, its "waking". I'll change it myself. Thanks.

Larry7639 19:36, 3 July 2007 (EDT)

This one's for you, Bufo.

Check it out. Animal Man

You said the magic words

when you said, "I do like it." That's the part that makes me smile. I always want people to have fun at what they do, so when I get to help make that happen, it fills me with glee.

I completely agree about how there are certain things in life that people don't notice when they're good. I think it's human nature: Red lights get more of our attention than green lights.

So here's to a lot of green lights, and the awareness to appreciate them!

The disambiguation of Metropolis.

In the Superman article, as well as other places, the links that I have made around Superman's home city lead to the Fritz Lang movie. What do you know about "Disambiguations"? Can we fix this?

Larry7639 18:03, 6 July 2007 (EDT)

Ancient entertainment

I sort of remember experiencing that feeling myself, when, as a whippersnapper, I observed my parents watching ghastly old movies in black and white. What a snooze! And my mom had an album by some old fogey named Dylan or something—something Dylan—never could keep it straight at the time.

Somehow the interesting parts of the world stretched out backward as well as forward as I matured. Amazing but true.

Thanks for sharing your observations. Hope you had a nice meal while enjoying the atmosphere!

Zooey practice

Hi, Bufo,

I just followed your lead! It was good practice for me.

It's nice to zen out sometimes while working. I listen to an audio of raindrops pattering down and other natural sounds, too.

Best,
Candy
Cashanundudyub 11:53, 10 July 2007 (EDT)

Parallel universes

A picture that Candy found inspired me to expand on the stub in the Parallel universe article. Perhaps you can take a look and think about what other categories might apply, or what other examples there are in Science Fiction. You'll note that I tried to emphasize Science Fiction TV and novels, and refrained from using too many examples from Comic Books.

Larry7639 22:39, 17 July 2007 (EDT)

Categories from another universe.

I'm thinking we need a category that reads something like "Stories involving a parallel universe" as well as one "Stories that involve time travel" as some people are particular fans of those themes. What do you think?

Larry7639 11:37, 18 July 2007 (EDT)

Trouble!

Bufo, I've been having trouble with the "Move" command for several days now. Is something wrong with the software? Whenever I try to use it, I just get error messages.

I've been trying to change some of my article titles to make them more consistant. For example, I'd like to have "(Marvel Comics)" and "(DC Comics)" as my disambiguation distinguisher, instead of "(DC)" and "(Comics)" as some of them seem to have. It hasn't been working, so I decided to live without it.

Anyway, now I've really made a mess. I accidentally left a period at the end of my Wakanda article. I redid it, but now we have two articles one Wakanda and the other Wakanda.. Again, I tried to fix it with the Move command, but I got the same results. Can you delete the second one?

Thanks! Just when I was congratulating myself for getting better at this stuff! :)

Larry7639 15:02, 23 July 2007 (EDT)

Thanks, and here's the trouble...

Thanks for the kind words. And yes, the Wakanda redirect works fine.

OK, here's what happens. I tried to move "Invaders (comics)" to "Invaders (Marvel Comics)". I click the button.

It goes back to the page "Move" page.

On the top of the page, it now says: Error: could not submit form

Towards the bottom where the fields are, it says: Source and destination titles are the same; can't move a page over itself.

In the fields, It still says: Move page: The Invaders (comics)

To new title: The Invaders (Marvel Comics)

This has happened again and again on a number of pages. Should I report this to Candy or someone?

Larry7639 20:11, 23 July 2007 (EDT)

OK, you offered. I hope you’re not sorry.

The following articles should be changed (or moved)so that the parenthetical part reads “(DC Comics)”.

Parallax (DC)

Oracle (DC)

Comet (DC)

Birds of Prey (comic)

Rogues (Flash)

The Creeper (Jack Ryder)

The following articles should be changed so that the parenthetical part reads “(Marvel Comics)”.

Daredevil (Matt Murdock)

Silver Surfer (Norrin Radd)

Hulk (character)

Larry7639 23:22, 23 July 2007 (EDT)

Bruce Campbell

I noticed you'd made a category for Bruce Campbell I thought you should know the Bruce Campbell listed on the Stargate SG-1 episode "Beneath the Surface" is not Bruce Campbell of Army of Darkness. I'm not sure how you want to deal with this as they are both actors, but the Stargate actor has only had three minor appearances. I doubt he requires an entire category.

--MarshAngel 10:31, 25 July 2007 (EDT)

Movin on up...again.

Could you make these two changes for me?

Wonder Woman (character) should be changed to Wonder Woman (DC Comics)

Ronin/Hawkeye (Marvel) should be changed to Ronin/Hawkeye (Marvel Comics)

Thanks.

Larry7639 23:35, 26 July 2007 (EDT)

Edmonton

Isn't it funny what you find out when you do these things. I'd been noticing some notable individuals from Alberta, which is really not a place you ever hear much about. There's always a nice surprise hiding in all this information.

--MarshAngel 10:44, 27 July 2007 (EDT)

I'm experiencing Double Vision.

Just to let you know, I changed the disambiguation of the Vision because I decided to include the Timely Vision and the later Vision in the same article, to make it consistent with my other multi-version articles. To tell you the truth, I was so intent on the Avengers, I forgot that the Golden Age Vision existed. Fortunately, I have a book of profiles on the Golden Age Timely heroes, so I was able to rectify my mistake. P.S. That guy was one weird dude!

Larry7639 13:11, 29 July 2007 (EDT)

Riddle me this...Why the Riddler?

OK, I think you mentioned this once before. I have been avoiding the Riddler and the Catwoman.

The Riddler was never really that popular a villain in the comics. He was only well known because Frank Gorshen did such a great job with him in the old 1966 TV series. Because of this, almost every writer has their own take on him, so its kind of like doing an article on starlight - it changes all the time.

I've avoided the Catwoman because she has her own comic book series and I do not read it. I figured better to have someone do it that's a fan.

Having got all of that off my chest - I'll work on it anyway. Let's see what I can come up with after some research.

Larry7639 22:29, 30 July 2007 (EDT)

Catwoman!

Ok, that should eliminate the red Catwoman problem. I actually called the article Catwoman (DC Comics) because I suspect there'll be separate articles on the movie, etc. I used a redirect, so that should turn our Catwoman "red" into "blue" as I'm starting to understand this stuff.

I did used to read Catwoman, and of course have read plenty of her in Batman over the years. Luckily, I had a Secret Files (includes "profiles" of DC Characters) comic from 2005 that had her modern origin. I coupled that with my own knowledge and a little internet research, so it looks pretty good and up-to-date.

I'll try to look for some good pictures, and a portrayal list, to finish it up.

Now can I go do Dr. Doom? Sheesh! :)

Larry7639 09:12, 31 July 2007 (EDT)

Riddle me this....

I did a very short article on the Riddler. Unlike the Joker, the Riddler has never had much of a definitive origin in the comic books. However, he has returned lately, after playing a rather nasty trick on Batman (he had Clayface impersonate his dead partner, the Jason Todd Robin)he has kind of reformed, and been around DC comics a bit more as a detective. Since Jason later actually DID later turn up alive, the impact of this trick was a bit muted, so I didn't really go into this in the article. Anyway, that should make the "RED" go away. I'm thinking of a few things i might want to add later.

Larry7639 10:55, 31 July 2007 (EDT)

Scarecrow!

Now you've got me in the mood to do Batman villains. Poor Doc Doom may have to wait.

The funny thing is that both Scarecrow (DC Comics) and Catwoman have got locations associated with them. I added them both to the Gotham City article. Check it out.

Larry7639 12:21, 31 July 2007 (EDT)

I stole your idea.

I liked your Doctor Doom quote so much, I used it in the article. Check it out.

Larry7639 19:44, 1 August 2007 (EDT)

Macros

Hey Bufo, I've never used a macro before. Mind walking me through the process?

--MarshAngel 10:09, 6 August 2007 (EDT)

S.H.I.E.L.D? What a difference a period makes.

Can you change "S.H.I.E.L.D" to "S.H.I.E.L.D."  ?

Thanks.

Larry7639 01:52, 7 August 2007 (EDT)

Thanks.

Yeah, I did articles on Civil War (Marvel), The Superhuman Registration Act and S.H.I.E.L.D. because I noticed that I was referring to them in almost every Marvel Comics article. And you told me to do my best to eliminate the red. I was afraid I would soon put them on that "Articles Most Needed" list.

Larry7639 17:24, 7 August 2007 (EDT)

Candy?

Is Candy out of town or something this week?

My picture downloading requests are starting to pile up.

I can wait, but usually she's pretty quick about these things, and I haven't seen a sign of her since last week.

Larry7639 19:25, 8 August 2007 (EDT)

Bite-sized morsels

Hi, Bufo,

Your suggestion of going to months is good. Another possibility would be to divide 2007 into two articles, since interest is probably always going to be highest in the current and upcoming section rather than the already-done section. Would either way be more efficient for searching and updating?

—Candy
Cashanundudyub 01:34, 13 August 2007 (EDT)

Hey! Bufo!

Today I return to work. Summer vacation is over, so my hobby time will be greatly reduced. Still, my goal is to continue as long as possible, hopefully maintaining the production of at least a couple of articles a week. I also have been updating and expanding my past articles as I learn more or new situations develop, and hope to continue to do that. We'll see how it goes.

Did you notice that I even did one on Martin Greenberg when he was #1 on your "articles needed" list? I own several of his Sherlock Holmes pastiche anthologies, and I decided to use it as an excuse to learn a little about him. I have been checking the list periodically since you mentioned it.

I've never done a movie article, though there are certainly several listed that I am familiar with. And I can't believe that no one will do an article on the Simpsons! :) Surely there is enough Sci-Fi and Horror parody on that show to make some interesting observations. In fact, the problem is that there is so much, that its tough to gather and organize this information. Maybe that's why it remains undone.

Larry7639 10:18, 13 August 2007 (EDT)

Diving in!

I think you're absolutely right about future growth. Thanks for opening up the discussion. I like the 2007 article and refer to it often.

Cheers,

It looks like a powerhouse of speakers and events.

I know you keep an eye on our stats, so what's your prediction on this?

2007

Hey Bufo, what are your plans for the 2007 article? I noticed you removed all the entries for Jan-Jun. My only concern is having a 20007 article that is nothing but a series of redirects. I think it would be better to turn the listing into an article that discusses the most important events of the year and also links to the main month article. I can also create a sidebar template linking directly to the 2007 months.

From SerenitySally

Hi, You just sent me a nice note with the editing you did on my article about the Stone Hill Science Fiction Association and I really appreciate the additions of the links and the advice you gave me. I probably won't be able to create the new article on NECRONOMICON till later this week but I will do that.

Please go ahead and change the title by removing "Florida Fandom" from it. I only put that there so that someone searching by "Florida" might find the article. Since you have made a section for Florida, it's not needed and I think it is good to remove it.

I am totally new to posting here, so I am grateful for all your help.

Peace, Ann Morris (SerenitySally)

Temporalism

Bufo, you read my mind. Just yesterday I was noting the difference in the distribution of information in the categories. The disparity is the reason I've been trying to add more older movies but as it turns out, the effort to keep up with what has been extremely popular and current really leads to more representation in the 2000s category.

--MarshAngel 14:52, 8 September 2007 (EDT)

more help and instructions

Great idea, Bufo. It's nice to have help and instructions available at all hours. Not everyone likes to jump in or ask questions before they start.

Hey Bufo,

The image in Martian Child (2007 film) is working on my Podkaynian computer.

There's lots to buzz about in adding more tips, tricks, and tendencies. I think we're good as long as we all stay aware that we're working on approaches and not laying down some kind of law. Being inviting is an important part of it, as is accepting that a first-time contributor has little idea of the ins and outs (I certainly didn't have). They just want to get started now and worry later about making it just so.

I wanted to close with "Go Visine team!" but you all are so far beyond that. "Go SCIFIpedia team!"?

Go us!

I'm positive that Spawn of Bufo would cruise through the test run and pick the best answer every time. :)

What I might be able to do is persuade a co-worker to test it. It might take a few days but I'm sure someone will step up for us.

Do you remember ruminating a while back on our article growth rate? I was thinking maybe the bump last winter corresponded to our adding articles for all the calendar dates. We're galloping along now!

GHOST FOLLOWED BY SPOOK (article) moved to Ghost followed by spook (article)

Hi Bufo,

I moved the article to lowercase because all caps create problems with auto alphabetization. By the way, with all the work you do on SCIFIPEDIA, how do you find time to eat and sleep? LOL

--Lorekeeper 19:51, 5 October 2007 (EDT)

ALL CAPS vs. lowercase

Bufo,

I also thought about the issue of preserving the original way it was printed and that's why I left it in all caps in the text. Even with adjusting for alphabetization, I still feel that it lays out better in the categories with uniformity in capitalization.
