Plot

Sometime after an assault by crazed creatures, personal assistant, Betsy Taylor is hit and killed by a car. She awakens days later in her coffin, ditches her funeral and discovers her much-hated step mother has stolen her beloved collection of designer shoes. Faced with her inexplicable inability to die like any good corpse, Betsy tries to return to her old life as best she can but her intentions are interrupted when a single bite to a cop transforms him into her devoted slave and she's kidnapped by the minions of a sadistic and cliched vampire king, Nostro, who believes he's her master.

Uncowed by Nostro, and unwilling to take sides with the gorgeous but infuriating alternative, powerful vampire Sinclair, Betsy is nevertheless forced to come to terms with the fact that she's nothing like other vampires. She seems to have a soul, no fear of religious symbols, and is unharmed by sunlight. Although she thirsts for blood she is not overwhelmed by it. All these mysterious talents lead Sinclair and his followers to believe she is the queen spoken of in book of prophecy.

When Betsy agrees to participate in a plan that leads to Nostro's demise she becomes queen but, to her shock, also gains a husband in the process. She is less than thrilled about either prospect, but fortunately for her husband and subjects, she is easily pacified with gifts of shoes.
