Twelve Monkeys is a 1995 post-apocalyptic sci fi thriller directed by Terry Gilliam and written by David Webb Peoples and Janet Peoples. The film starred Bruce Willis, Madeleine Stowe and Brad Pitt. Pitt earned an Academy Award nomination for his supporting role and the film was also nominated for its costume design. It also won three Saturn Awards for Best Science Fiction Film, Costume Design and supporting actor for Pitt.

Summary

Convicted criminal, James Cole (Bruce Willis) is sent back in time from the year 2035 to find out more about a deadly virus that wiped out over five billion people. The virus is believed to have been spread by the Army of the Twelve Monkeys. He mistakenly arrives in 1990 rather than 1996 and is placed in a mental institution. In 1996, he kidnaps psychiatrist, Dr. Kathryn Railly (Madeleine Stowe) and gains her help finding the Twelve Monkeys, revolutionaries set on releasing a virus.
