On the series Stargate SG-1, Tretonin is a drug developed by the Pangarans. The drug replaces the immune system, guaranteeing extended life and perfect health but also a lifetime dependence. Made from ground Goa'uld symbiotes spawned by Egeria, the drug's flaw was a result of a genetic problem intentionally created by Egeria. Shortly before her death, she gave the Pangarans the means to solve the problem but without a new queen, they were unable to make more of the drug.

Tok'ra scientists later refined tretonin as a means of replacing the larval symbiotes on which the Jaffa are dependent and which gave the Goa'uld power over them. Rebel Jaffa like Teal'c, Bra'tac and Ishta depend on the drug for their continued survival and other Jaffa who are unable to find new symbiotes have begun using the drug as well.
