Thor is the Supreme Commander of the Asgard fleet. He is one of Earth's greatest allies. SG-1 first heard of him on a visit to Cimmeria where they encountered the technology of Thor's Hammer, a device designed to kill goa'uld symbiotes and free the host. Thor posed as the Norse god to the Cimmerians who were transplanted from Earth by the goa'uld.

When SG-1 returned to Cimmeria in "Thor's Chariot" to help rid them of goa'uld invaders, they visited the Hall of Thor's Might. Daniel solves a riddle devised to help determine if the Cimmerians had reached a sufficient level of advancement to interact with the Asgard in their true form. Thor appeared and they requested his help in ridding the planet of the goa'uld, who were able to invade because SG-1 had destroyed the hammer. Thor's ship appeared and removed the goa'uld. After the events of Thor's Cheriot, the Fifth Race, and Point of View, O'Niell began looking on the Asgard as a friendly race, and after the events of Fair Game Thor became a personal friend to O'Neill.

When Jack O'Neill downloaded the contents of the Ancient Repository of Knowledge it led him to The Asgard who were able to remove it before it harmed him. He and Thor formed a bond which led Thor to request his help to save Earth from invasion by Replicators in "Nemesis". SG-1's success in dealing with the Replicator's led to Thor requesting their help on several other occasions to deal with the Replicators with great success.

Thor was captured by Anubis when he attempted to access a hidden laboratory in the Milky Way with important data. Anubis accessed his mind using Ancient technology and learned about Asgard Technology. O'Neill rescued him but Thor slipped into a coma. Thor was able to upload himself to Osiris' ship's computer and gained control over the vessel, guiding it to Earth. SG-1 boarded the vessel and were able to download Thor's consciousness so it could be transferred to a new clone body.

The relationship between Thor and the SGC was not one-sided. When Senator Robert Kinsey attempted to gain control of the SGC in "Disclosure", Thor appeared during the meeting and influenced the decision of the international leaders in favor of allowing the SGC to remain in control. He also attempted to negotiate with the goa'uld system lords for the inclusion of Earth in the Asgard Protected Planets Treaty under which Cimmeria falls. Most importantly, in return for all their help, Thor visited Earth and gifted them with Asgard shields and weapons for the Earth ship Prometheus.

Memorable Quotes

The Asgard would never invent a weapon that propels small weights of iron and carbon alloys, by igniting a powder of potassium nitrate, charcoal and sulphur.

I am Thor, Supreme Commander of the Asgard Fleet. Your presence here is a violation of the Protected Planets Treaty, and you must withdraw immediately.

Thor: The Replicators were brought aboard an Asgard ship, for study, before the danger could be fully comprehended.

Jack O'Neill: We do that all the time. Kind of expected more from you guys.

Jack O'Neill: I was expecting the other shoe to drop... eventually.

Thor: We can only hope that this is the last footwear to fall.
