Phile speak is one term used to describe the slang terms and abbreviations commonly used among "Philes," fans of the TV series The X-Files. The list presented below should not be considered exhaustive.


Contents

Terms common to online fandom, irrespective of show

  • Shipper—Romance/Relationship fan (short for relationshipper)
  • Ep, Eps, Eppys—Episodes
  • Fan fic, fanfic—Fan fiction; stories written by fans about the characters or settings of a show
  • Slash—same-sex pairings in a work of fan fiction (not to be confused with the slash character ("/") used in a phrase such as "Mulder/Scully"
  • Recs—Recommended fan fiction
  • Fanon—A fact that wasn't in the show but has become fact in most fan fiction; short for "fan canon"


X-Files characters

  • Moose and Squirrel—Mulder and Scully
  • X —Mr. X
  • DT—Deep Throat
  • WMM—Well-Manicured Man
  • CSM—Cigarette-Smoking Man
  • Ratboy—Krycek
  • LGM or TLG—Lone Gunmen or The Lone Gunmen
  • Faux Mulder—Fake Mulder (for example, Morris in "Dreamland" or Eddie in "Small Potatoes")
  • Oilean—Black Oil Alien
  • ABH—Alien Bounty Hunter
  • MMBH—Mighty Morphin Bounty Hunter

  • WOTC—"War of the Coprophages"
  • HTGSC—"How the Ghosts Stole Christmas"

  • TINH—"This Is Not Happening"

  • DRipper—Dogget Reyes romance relationship fan
  • MSR—Mulder-Scully Romance
  • DRR—Doggett-Reyes Romance
  • DSR—Doggett-Scully Romance
  • MFR—Mulder-Fowley Romance
  • SKipper—Scully-Krycek relationship fan

  • Phile—X-Files fan
  • Myth arc, Mytharc—Key episodes the follow the mythology of The X-Files plot arc (occasionally seen as one word)
  • MOTW—Monster of the Week episodes
  • Angst—Fan fic that has the main character (Mulder or Scully, typically) suffering and/or dying
  • MT—Mulder Torture
  • TOTM—Theater of the Mind
  • PWP—Plot Without Plot—No, It's Plot, What Plot? (usually a smut piece)
  • UST—Unresolved Sexual Tension
  • RST—Resolved Sexual Tension
  • WIP—Fan Fiction work in progress
