Plot

Stargate Command is pressured by the US Secretary of Defense, David Swift to produce evidence of the Stargate Program's success in procuring alien technologies. To appease the secretary, Teal'c suggests they visit a planet where a flying creature, capable of invisibility lives. The goa'uld have previously hunted the creatures but have never caught one. Two of Teal'c's men were executed for their failed attempt to capture one.

SG-1 visits the planet armed with tranquilizers to disable the creature. Shortly after their arrival, the stargate disappears and they encounter Apophis who is also hunting the creatures. They decide to use the opportunity to take him out, and eliminate the threat he poses to Earth. They attack him, and kill two of his guards but Apophis protects himself with an energy shield. He then kills all of them but Teal'c. All the bodies and Teal'c disappear.

SG-1 awakens inside a hut in the forest all shocked to find themselves alive. They meet the people who brought them there, a humanoid race with very wild hair. The Nox are a very peaceful, seemingly primitive people with the power to heal. They also seem to be naturalists and pacifist by nature. They took SG-1's weapons away from them and refused to return them. Worried about an attack from Apophis, the team builds bows and arrows as new weapons.

The Nox do not speak to SG-1 at first but they later reveal that they were merely taking some to learning their language. They bring Teal'c to one of Apophis' Jaffa, Shak'l, a warrior formerly under Teal'c's command. They have healed Shak'l as well. Teal'c encourages him to choose freedom but Shak'l refuses to believe the goa'uld are not gods. Teal'c bounds Shak'l's hands.

The leader of the Nox Family, Anteaus wants SG-1 to return to the stargate to their own world and take their violent ways with them. But SG-1 is afraid Apophis will attack them, and they have no apparent defense. The youngest member of the family, a small boy named Nafrayu is curious about SG-1 and their enemy. He has difficulty understanding why they would fight the goa'uld and he is curious about them.

Daniel converses with one of the Nox, Opher, who reveals that he is 432 years old. Opher also reveals that the goa'uld have been hunting the invisible creature, known as the Fenri for his entire lifetime. O'Neill, seeking to protect Nafrayu from the Fenri, fires an arrow in the creature’s direction but Anteaus appears out of thin air, demanding that he not corrupt young Nafrayu with his ways. O'Neill realizes it's not the Fenri that makes itself invisible. The Nox protect the creature with their own powers of invisibility. O'Neill becomes even more concerned for their safety from the goa'uld.

Teal'c offers Shak'l the opportunity to join him once more and Shak's refuses. He begins to scream and Lya, a female Nox, rushes to his aid, believing Teal'c had harmed him. Teal'c discerned Shak'l's intentions and pushes Lya aside and is stabbed by Shak'l. Lya is injured and the other Nox join in a ritual to heal her while Shak'l watches unnoticed from the forest. He returns to Apophis and reveal his discovery.

Anteaus once again urges SG-1 to leave but soon discover Nafrayu is missing. To appease his curiosity, he goes in search of the goa'uld and finds Apophis who attacks him with the ribbon device. When he is found by SG-1 and Anteaus, he appears to be dead.

The Nox need to heal Nafrayu but SG-1 is concerned that when they attempt to do so they'll become vulnerable to attack. SG-1 prepares with whatever weapons they have on hand for the attack. They successfully disable Apophis' Jaffa and Apophis vanishes. Anteaus reveals that he has sent them through the stargate and has done the same with SG-1’s weapons.

O’Neill warns the Nox that the goa'uld will return. Anteaus promises to bury the stargate. SG-1 remains concerned for the safety of the Nox but Anteaus assures them that they will be fine. The stargate reappears and Anteaus expresses that he wishes to show them something before they leave. With a wave of his hand he reveals a large city floating in the sky, encircled by Fenri. The Nox are clearly more advanced than they appeared.

SG-1 returns through the gate, disappointed that the Nox will bury their gate and they'll never have an opportunity to learn from them.
