The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor is an upcoming 2008 film, the third film in the Universal Pictures Mummy movie franchise. Not considered a true sequel, the film is reportedly a reimagining of the first two films. Rob Cohen takes over from Stephen Sommers as director though Sommers serves as a producer. Smallville writers Miles Millar and Alfred Gough take on the film's screenplay. Brendan Fraser returns as Rick O'Connell but while Rachel Weisz of previous films expressed interest in the project, Maria Bello has since replaced her in the role of Evelyn Carnahan O'Connell. Also returning are John Hannah as Jonathan Carnahan. Luke Ford will take on the role of Alex O'Connell while other new actors to the franchise include Jet Li as villain, Emperor Qin Shi Huang, and Michelle Yeoh as Zijuan.

The film is shot in China, the setting for the plot, which begins in ancient China. Rick O'Connell and son, Alex visit the forbidden tombs of China and in the Himalayas discover a shape-shifting mummy cursed by a wizard centuries ago.
