Luna

<span class="SFPTagline"> From SCIFIPEDIA </span>

(Redirected from The Moon)

Luna is Earth's moon.

The moon has been the setting for quite a bit of sci fi. Prior to the actual landing on July 20, 1969, the effort to get to the moon also inspired a lot of sci fi.

Varying the familiar sight of the moon in the sky is one way filmmakers can establish that a location is not on Earth but on another planet. One example is the two moons that are visible in the original Star Wars; another is the moon split into two halves in Thundarr the Barbarian.

As for the paranormal, there have been reported observations of UFOs and other technological activity, including some reports by astronauts. In 1835, the New York Sun ran a series of articles about the observations of Sir John Herschel, a well-known astronomer of the time. He had reportedly observed life-forms, including something like large, bipedal rodents. These stories turned out to be a hoax.
