The Land that Time Forgot is a novel by Edgar Rice Burroughs. The novel is the first in his Caspak trilogy and was initially titled Lost U-Boat. It was first serialized in Blue Book Magazine in 1918. It was published as a novel in 1934 by A. C. McClurg.

The story is set during World War I and follows American Bowen J. Tyler, a passenger on board an English ship sunk in the English Channel by a German U-boat. He is rescued by a British tugboat, which also sinks, but the crew captures the U-boat and takes command. A struggle ensues for command of the vessel, and boat is led off course and becomes lost. They arrive at a tropical island identified as Caprona. The island's existence was first reported by the (fictitious) Italian explorer Caproni in 1721 but since then its location had been lost. On the island ,the crew encounters prehistoric plants and animals.

It's usually best to give a very general overview to a story first, then plot details. When including the plot or essential details in your article (which could ruin the pleasure of discovery for some readers), it is important to include the spoiler tag before any give-away material.
