The Invisible Man is an 1897 novella by H.G. Wells. The story was first serialized in Pearson's Magazine in 1897 before being published in the same year. The story concerns a scientist who successfully carries out an experiment changing his refractive index, ultimately making himself visible. unfortunately he is unable to reverse the change and is driven insane.

The idea of an invisible man has been the inspiration for dozens of films over the years.
