The Invaders was a television series which ran from January 10, 1967 to March 26, 1968 on ABC for 43 episodes. The series was a Quinn Martin production.
Premise
Protagonist David Vincent (played by Roy Thinnes) tries to "convince a disbelieving world" of the presence of aliens on earth.
Summary
Vincent, an architect, is tired from a long drive. He pulls over to the side of the road to rest a bit, and a flying saucer lands. He discovers that aliens from a dying world are replacing humans in an effort to take over Earth.
Quinn Martin had a previous hit with a "man on the run" series with The Fugitive. In a sense, the series are similar. Both main characters are on the run from false accusations. The police are potentially enemies.
However, The Invaders had the significant twist of the alien presence. UFOs had been big in the news in 1966. Roy Thinnes expressed his support for the reality of UFOs, albeit during publicity for his show.
The aliens had tell-tale signs. They had no pulse or heartbeat. Their pinky fingers didn't bend normally (although some of the aliens did not have this characteristic). You would think that killing an alien could provide proof of this different physiology, but when killed, they (and their clothing) would disintegrate.
Some of the aliens are effectively "human sympathizers". Fans of the series V might notice a similarity with disguised aliens and some of them helping a human resistance.
