The Humanoids presents a number of articles from the publishers of England's Flying Saucer Review. At the time of its original publication (1966) it was considered daring to talk about "occupant cases", even by many of those who were investigating UFO reports. Given that books on alien abduction would become bestsellers in the 1980s, this may seem strange to today's reader.
The book was re-published in the United States in 1969 by the Henry Regnery Company, and became an important account of this previously down-played element of the UFO mystery. The mainstream Library Journal described it as "well-written" and "recommended".
The contributors included several well-known ufologists, including Jacques Vallee, Gordon Creighton, Aime Michel, and Coral Lorenzen.
The book took a deliberately international approach.
