The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, in Japanese, Toki wo kakeru shôjo is a Japanese anime film directed by Mamoru Hosoda and written by Satoko Okudera based on a 1965 novel by Yasutaka Tsutsui . The story was updated and is set in contemporary Tokyo, twenty years after the events of the novel.

Summary

Makoto Konno is the niece of the novel's heroine. Makoto discovers she has the ability to travel back in time. She uses her ability for small things such as avoiding being late and getting the answers for tests. Makoto soon realizes she has a limited number of time leaps available to her. When her friend, Chiaki expresses feelings for her, her friendship with other male friend, Kosuke begins to fall apart. Makoto learns that despite her abilities, there are some things time will never be able to change.
