The Fifth Element is a 1997 sci-fi/fantasy film written and directed by Luc Besson. The film starred Bruce Willis, Milla Jovovich, Chris Tucker and Gary Oldman. Notable French designer Jean-Paul Gaultier created detailed and unusual costumes for the film.
The film was set two hundred and fifty years in a future dystopian New York when Earth is threatened by the appearance of an asteroid heading for the planet which turns out to be, not an astronomical object, but evil incarnate. Only the fifth element can stop Evil from overwhelming and destroying the planet.
Cab driver Korben Dallas (Bruce Willis) becomes entangled in the plot to save the planet when the fifth element, Leeloo (Milla Jovovich), falls into his cab. Dallas must find and gather the five elements (water, air, earth, fire, Leeloo) together, protect Leeloo, and escape the henchmen of the evil Jean-Baptiste Emanuel Zorg (Gary Oldman) to destroy the evil threatening the planet.
The Fifth Element was filmed at Pinewood Studios in England with several scenes shot on location in Mauritania.
