The Diamond Age or, A Young Lady's Illustrated Primer is a 1995 science fiction novel by Neal Stephenson. The novel is set in a world where nanotechnology has become pervasive. An aristocrat who is concerned about the state of their culture commissions an interactive book for his daughter which guides her through a surreal alternate world. The book falls into the hands of a young girl, Nell and she is taught how to become a master engineer and how to defend herself as well as a variety of leadership and survival skills. The novel follows her development as she learns.

A six hour miniseries based on the novel is planned for the SCI FI Channel to be produced by George Clooney and Grant Heslov.
