The City of Ember is a 2003 post-apocalyptic novel by Jeanne DuPrau. The novel has been adapted for the screen in the 2008 film City of Ember.

Synopsis

Deep underground in the refuge for the last of humanity, the lamps that light the city of Ember have begun to flicker, indicating that the powerful generator that supports the city has begun to fail. Lina Mayfleet and Doon Harrow, two 12-year-olds, discover a part of an ancient message they believe may hold the secret to the city's salvation. They must discover its meaning before the lights go out and the city goes dark forever.
