The Ark of Truth is an Ancient artifact that predates human and Ancient civilization in the Milky Way.

The device was created by the Alterans in their home galaxy which they shared with the Ori. Built on the planet Celestis, the device was designed to force believers of Origin to open their minds to the truth. Believing in free will and reason, the Alterans never used the device and it was buried beneath the ruins of its designers' home in the mountains of the planet when they abandoned the galaxy.

Several million years later, the device was sought out and discovered by SG-1 in the Ori home galaxy. When successfully activated by Daniel Jackson, using the Ancient word for Truth/Origin, the Ark was opened, releasing a bright white light. The energy activated the priors' staffs, which spread the truth about Origin to Ori believers throughout the galaxy. The Ark was brought to the Milky Way where it was activated a second time for the same purpose. The Ark was later sent to Area 51 for study.
