The Addams Family is a 1991 Academy Award- nominated comedic film based on the characters created by cartoonist Charles Addams. The film was produced by Scott Rubin with Orion Pictures and Paramount and directed by Barry Sonnenfield. The Addams Family previously appeared as a cartoon in the New Yorker that was later developed into a television series. An animated series was launched in 1973. The film was followed by the sequel The Addams Family Values in 1993 and a direct to video 1998 film with an all new cast, The Addams Family Reunion. A second live action series, The New Addams Family began airing in 1998 but proved short-lived.
