Terry Dowling (b. 1947) was born in Sydney and is one of Australia’s most awarded and internationally acclaimed writers of science fiction, fantasy and horror. He has been called “Australia’s finest writer of horror” (Locus magazine) and “Australia’s premier writer of dark fantasy” (All Hallows). A communications instructor, musician and songwriter, he has reviewed genre books for The Weekend Australian for the past sixteen years. His novels and collections include the “Tom Rynosseros” saga, comprising Rynosseros, Blue Tyson and Twilight Beach, Wormwood, The Man Who Lost Red, An Intimate Knowledge of the Night, Antique Futures: The Best of Terry Dowling and Blackwater Days. Dowling is also the author of the best-selling computer adventures Schizm: Mysterious Journey, Schizm II: Chameleon and Sentinel: Descendants in Time. His short stories have appeared in numerous anthologies, including The Year’s Best Science Fiction, The Year’s Best SF, The Year’s Best Fantasy, Best New Horror and The Year’s Best Fantasy and Horror, as well as Dreaming Down Under, Centaurus, Gathering the Bones and The Dark. He is also co-editor of Mortal Fire: Best Australian SF and The Essential Ellison, while a collection of his best horror stories recently appeared from Cemetery Dance Publications.
