The series is set after the events of Terminator 2: Judgment Day and essentially ignores and overwrites the events of Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines. It documents Sarah's life after she stops running and goes on the offensive against Skynet which has somehow been recreated and will ultimately create the machines that aim to destroy her and her son and ultimately, humanity as a whole. Not quite ready for his future role as the savior of mankind, John is rescued from a Terminator assassin by high school student, Cameron, who proves to be a terminator sent by his future self to protect him and Sarah. In addition to mechanical agents from the future they must face off against FBI Agent, James Ellison who they manage to convince to help them.
