Telepath)
Telepathy is the ability to directly perceive the thoughts of another entity. A person who can use telepathy is called a telepath.
Although telepathy is often thought of as being passive reception, thoughts could also be sent deliberately. It has been proposed that such mental communications might be especially influential, and attempts have been made to ilicit specific behavior in "targets".
Scientific experiments have been conducted in an effort to determine the reality of telepathy. Some of the most famous work was done at Duke University by J. B. Rhine.
People encountering ufonauts frequently report that the communication is conducted telepathically. This has also been reported in a few Bigfoot cases.
If telepathy is a fact, it might explain other paranormal happenings. For example, a medium who believed that they were receiving communications from a dead relative for someone might be picking up information about the dead relative from the living audience member. Similarly, a person receiving psychic information about a remote location might be reading the mind of a person who is there or who had been there.
Telempathy is the possibly related ability to directly sense feelings (such as emotions or pain) in another entity. A person who can use telempathy is called an empath.
Telepathy and telempathy are reported in animals as well as humans. Rupert Sheldrake has done studies on "dogs that know when their owners are coming home".
It has even been suggested that plants may react to people's emotions, presumably through telempathy of some kind.
The majority of scientists do not consider telepathy to be proven. Stage magicians such as Scott Xavier and Christopher Carter have shown that duplication of telepathic and mind reading demonstrations can be performed using standard conjuring tricks. This branch of specialty illusion is also known as mentalism.
Telepathy is a common element in Sci Fi works. Many aliens are portrayed as having the ability. It could be technologically assisted, or even be the method by which a disembodied brain communicates.
