On the series Stargate SG-1, Tegalus is a Milky Way galaxy planet divided in philosophy and separated into two factions, the Rand Protectorate and the Caledonian Federation. The planet appears to be in the midst an Industrial Revolution. A war between the two factions nearly destroyed both societies; an outcome much desired by the people of Avidan, a radical religious order founded by Soren, who believed in the "gods" with the Great Ring of Avidan (Stargate) at the center of their beliefs.

Rand Protectorate

The Rand Protectorate is a nation of Tegalus opposed by the Caledonian federation. The nation was very nearly destroyed by a missile sent by the Caledonians who were spurred on by religious leader, Soren.

Earth allied themselves with Protectorate who possess the planet's stargate. The two groups met when SG-1 came through the Stargate, to the people, a museum relic. Having previously dismissed all stories that the gate was once a mystical source of power for the gods, they were stunned to find it was operation. Their appearance gave credence to radical religious leader, Soren. SG-1 learned of the ongoing war between the Rand Protectorate and the Caledonian Federation and Dr. Daniel Jackson attempted, unsuccessfully to negotiate a truce between the warring nations.

With his beliefs confirmed, Soren gained power and became a major threat causing the Caledonians to threaten the Rand in order to sop Soren's extremist faction from taking over. Despite all attempts, Soren gained power and killed all members of the Rand government. Earth attempted to negotiate with Soren to provide food and medical supplies for the Rand people but his main interests was weaponry. Soren was killed by one of his own when it became clear he did not have his people's best interests in mind.

Caledonian Federation

Caledonia has been locked in a cold war with the Rand Protectorate for many decades. SG-1's arrival in Rand caused relations to degrade and all attempts to negotiate a truce proved a failure. The Federation attacked the Rand hoping to stop extremists but suffered extremely when the Rand retaliated. They later struggled to rebuild only to suffer a devastating attack from the Rand who had, with the help of a Prior of the Ori, built a powerful satellite weapon. The Caledonians were ordered to surrender to the Rand and embrace Origin or be wiped out.

Stargate command stepped in to try to stop the Rand and teach them about the true nature of the Ori. Unfortunately, Earth lost Prometheus trying to stop the Ori satellite and both Caledonia and Rand are no better off than they were when they began. The planet's stargate is presumed buried under rubble.
