Lieutenant Natasha Yar (b. 2337) is a fictional character in the series Star Trek: The Next Generation played by Denise Crosby.

Tasha is a Starfleet officer born on the war-torn colony of Turkana IV. She has one younger sister, Ishara. The girls' parents were victims of a violent clash among the planet's cadres and they were taken in by a foster family who soon abandoned them leaving them to fend for themselves and elude the rape gangs that roamed the planet.

Spoiler Warning: Plot details and/or information about the ending follow. If you wish to enjoy the work first, stop reading here and return at another time.

Tasha left the planet at fifteen leaving her sister, who refused to leave, behind with the Coalition Cadre. Yar attended Starfleet Academy and became a security officer and an expert in the martial arts. Captain Jean-Luc Picard requested she be assigned to the USS Enterprise-D under his command, where she served as security officer until her death on 2364 (Stardate 41601) on Vagra II at the hands of a malevolent being, Armus.

Tasha was remembered in a memorial service in which, through a holographic recording, she thanked and encouraged the senior officers of the Enterprise. She thanked Deanna Troi for helping her express her feminine side and expressed her connection to Worf due to their similarities. She looked up to Captain Picard as the only father figure she has ever known.

Tasha enjoyed physical activities such as Aikido and Parrises Squares.

Alternate Events

In an alternate timeline, the Enterprise experienced a temporal distortion that prevented the events of the episode "Skin of Evil." Tasha continued her service on the Enterprise until she was captured by Romulans and became a consort to a Romulan general to save the lives of the crew of the Enterprise-C. She had a daughter, Sela, who became a Romulan officer.
