On the series Stargate SG-1, Tanith was a Goa'uld incubated by the Jaffa priestess, Shau'nac. Shau'nac became convinced that she could communicate with the maturing goa'uld and that she had convinced him that the ways of the goa'uld were evil. Convinced he had changed, she contacted Stargate Command who in turn got her in touch with the Tok'ra. The Tok'ra were able to find Tanith a host, a volunteer, Hebron. After taking control of Hebron, Tanith murdered Shau'nac and claimed she had simply waited too long to take another symbiote.

Tanith lived among the Tok'ra as a spy for Apophis, though the Tok'ra were aware of his duplicity and used him to feed false information to the System Lord. Teal'c vowed vengeance on Tanith and finally achieved it when he shot down Tanith's Al'kesh.
