FJA Saves the Day!
I had traveled to my first World Con (Discon II, in 1974), and had a great time! I arranged a ride back to the airport, so I blew all my remaining money in the huckster's room. When it was time to go, my ride had left without me! I had some leftover unexposed Super 8mm film, and I saw Forry. I was a big fan, devouring every issue of Famous Monsters of Filmland. I asked him if he wanted to buy some of the film, hoping to get enough money to get a cab. When he politely deferred, saying it wouldn't do him any good, he asked me why I was selling it. I told him, and he loaned me (a total stranger) ten dollars! Promising to pay him back, I got to the airport, across the country and home. When I saw him again at a convention years later, I paid him back, and he remembered me. I believe he said, "Oh, you were that fellow." I have always been grateful to him for his generosity...and his memory. :)
