Stephen Sommers

Stephen Sommers (b. March 20, 1962, Indianapolis, Indiana) is an American director, producer, and screenwriter who has worked on several popular films including The Mummy and its sequels and spin offs The Mummy Returns, The Scorpion King, The Scorpion King: Rise of the Akkadian, and The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor. Sommers also wrote, directed, and produced the 2004 film Van Helsing.

His other films include The Jungle Book, The Adventures of Huck Finn, and Deep Rising. In addition to The Mummy and Scorpion King sequels in 2008, Sommers also directs a remake of the 1951 film When Worlds Collide, Airborn based on the Kenneth Oppel novel, G.I. Joe, and Magic Kingdom for Sale based on the Terry Brooks novel.

Sommers grew up in Minnesota and attended St. John's University and The University of Seville in Spain. Following college, Sommers toured Europe as an actor and music manager. He eventually returned to the United States and attended the USC scool of Cinema-Television where he earned his masters degree.

While in school, he wrote and directed the short film "Perfect Alibi." Sommers made his feature film directorial debut on the 1989 film Catch Me If You Can, filmed in his home town, St. Cloud, Minnesota. Sommers has since grown into a well-known director of big-budget fantasy epics.

Sommers married wife Jana Sommers in 1993, and the couple have two childen.
