The Ori prepare to send ships to the Milky Way to attack Earth. SG-1 needs an ancient artifact to defeat them but discover its in the Ori Galaxy. They travel to the Ori Galaxy aboard the Odyssey and face off against two enemies.
Plot
Daniel experiences visions that lead SG-1 to return to the ruins of Dakara to search for an Ancient artifact, The Ark of Truth. They discover the box but are cornered by Ori forces, led by Tomin. They surrender but with an anti-prior device, they are able to nullify the prior's abilities and the prior is shot and killed, proving to Tomin that what he has believed about the Ori is false.
SG-1 returns to Earth with Tomin who is questioned by new IOA representative, James Marrick. Daniel informs Tomin that he is looking for the Ark of Truth and Tomin tells him of a place in the Ori galaxy on Celestis, which the Book of Origin describes as "Ortus Mallum", the "birthplace of evil". It is where he believes the Ark is most likely located.
The SGC scraps Carter's IOA-favored plans to destroy the supergate for a mission to the Ori Galaxy. They are to be accompanied by Marrick whose approval is necessary for the mission. Mitchell is given command of the Odyssey. Once in the Ori galaxy, they head for Celestis and the team transports down to the ruins. The area was once home to a group of Ancients who, in response to the spread of Origin, built the Ark to enlighten the followers of Origin to the truth. Philosophically opposed to using the device however, they destroyed the area in the process of abandoning it for a new home in the Milky Way, burying the Ark beneath the rubble.
When Mitchell receives a message from the Odyssey that Marrick has locked himself in the Asgard computer core, he and Carter return to the ship leaving Teal'c, Vala, Tomin and Daniel to consider searching for the Ark. Back on board Odyssey, they find that Marrick has used the Asgard computers create something, a Replicator. He intends to use it as a means to destroy the Ori, even if the Odyssey is destroyed in the process. The Replicator plan is the IOA's backup in case the SGC decided against destroying the supergate. With the core online however, the Ori ships can easily find them.
The replicator is released from confinement so it can be destroyed but the weapon fails and the replicator escapes into the ship. Carter attempts to lock off the Asgard core in hopes of finding the shutdown command in the replicator's program code. Mitchell goes in search of the replicator but the bugs have replicated and spread and he faces off against Marrick whose body has been taken over and controlled by a replicator. Four Ori vessels surround the 'Odyssey and they jump into hyperspace to escape but later drop out when the Replicators gain control over the ship's systems.
On Celestis, a vision of Merlin helps Daniel find an underground tunnel which leads them to the Ark. They bring it to the surface but come under attack by Ori troops. Teal'c is shot and left for dead. When he awakens, he's surrounded by the bodies of several of the enemy but his friends are gone. He heads out of the forest across the mountains and down to the Planes of Celestis he eventually collapses unconscious and exhausted but an ascended being heals him and he continues toward the Ori city.
Daniel, Vala and Tomin are brought to the city of the City of the Gods and tortured. Vala is brought before the Flames of Enlightenment and discovers that Adria has assumed all the power that was once distributed among the Ori, whom SG-1 successfully wiped out with the sangraal. She has the Ark but she cannot use it to convert the Milky Way as it only reveals truth. Vala witnesses the buttons atop the Ark glowing before the glow disappears.
Merlin appears to Daniel, telling him not to give up but Daniel insists Morgan le Fay reveal herself for who she is. She gives up her Merlin guise and he begs her to act on their behalf. She claims she has done all she can; she cannot take on Adria on her own as she is far too powerful. She has done her best to distract her and help them find the sangraal and the Ark. Morgan informs Daniel that if he can activate the Ark in the presence of a prior, he will be successful at spreading the truth about the Ori. The crystal in the prior's staff will spread the effect to all other priors and their flocks throughout the galaxy.
On Earth, The SGC has permitted a prior to visit Earth. The prior claims to have information vital to Earth's survival. The planet will be spared if he's allowed to spread Origin to the people. Naturally, they decline his offer. Some time later, seven Ori vessels arrive in the solar system but hold position without attack. General Landry hopes SG-1 might be able to help.
On board the Odyssey, the ship is now under attack from within and without.
The replicators have made it to the Asgard core but Mitchell manages to get through to Marrick just long enough for him to reveal the location of the shutdown code for the replicators. Carter manages to shut down the replicators but the ship remain sunder attack by the Ori.
Teal'c arrives in the city and manages to free Daniel, Vala and Tomin. They head for the room in which the Ark is held. While Vala distracts Adria, Daniel attempts to activate the Ark using Vala's description of which buttons were glowing. His first attempt is unsuccessful but when he succeeds in activating it using the Ancient word for truth (synonymous with Origin), Teal'c shoots the leg of the table holding the ark causing it to collapse and the Ark to open. The prior and Doci are immediately enlightened to the truth and the effect is spread across the galaxy, immediately weakening Adria. Morgan appears and engages her in a fight she can now be assured is equal.
With the truth revealed to followers of Origin throughout the Ori galaxy, Odyssey is spared from further attack. SG-1 returns to Earth with the Ark. The Ark reveals the truth to Ori followers throughout the Milky Way and is later taken to Area 51 for study, despite Daniel's suggestion that it should be destroyed.
