Plot
After finally having found the last Baal, SG-1 and General Jack O'Neill attend the extraction of the symbiote from its host on the Tok'ra home world. In his last words, Baa'l claims he is not the last and the true Baal has enacted a plan that will change everything. When Vala disappears, shortly followed by Teal'c, the team becomes concerned. Baal stabs and kills O'Neill before being shot and killed. With people disappearing everywhere, Samantha Carter, Daniel Jackson and Cameron Mitchell make it to the stargate just as the buildings begin to disappear.
They emerge on the other side inside a frozen building rather than the gate room. They discover they are on board the Achilles, the vessel that took the Stargate from Egypt, crossing the Atlantic in 1939. It is readily apparent that the vessel never made it to its destination, forever changing the future. Baal and his Jaffa traveled back in time to 1939 and intercepted the vessel, killing its crew and planting a bomb on board that would ensure the sinking of the ship and gate. However, shortly after Baal abandons the vessel, the ship's captain, Mitchell's grandfather, survives long enough to throw the bomb overboard. The vessel drifted into the arctic circle where it remained until SG-1's arrival.
Trapped inside the frozen ship, with temperatures rapidly dropping, Mitchell sets off a bomb that blows a hole in the ship for them to escape. They do so shortly before the ship sinks but in the process Daniel's leg becomes wet and immediately freezes disabling him. Mitchell and Carter head south for help, making occasional calls on their radio. They run into Jack O'Neill who recognizes Carter as a deceased astronaut. A sub breaks through the ice and on board they find Daniel undergoing medical treatment. The sub was investigating the burst of energy created by the Stargate. The three are brought back to a military base in Alaska where they are questioned and Daniel's leg is amputated.
With the Stargate never discovered, there was no gate program, no Goa'uld threat and Baal never showed up. Further proving the differences between the timelines, Hank Landry is married and Jack's son is alive. General Landry is brought in to hear their story and comes to believe their tale that the timeline has been changed. However, they have no intention of letting them go through the gate and change the timeline. They are, instead, given new identities and prohibited from contacting each other.
A year later, an Al'kesh is seen in Earth's skies and the three are called back in. A massive Goa'uld fleet arrives with the intention of invading. Baal is in command. With the knowledge of the events of the previous timeline, he has brought the System Lords under his command made Qetesh his queen and Teal'c his first prime and leader of the soon to be free Jaffa Nation. Rather than bring the population of Earth to near extinction as the other System Lords would prefer, Baal wants to enslave them peacefully, offering Earth peace and friendship. When he produces an Earth-made phone and calls the president, Quetesh becomes suspicious of his impressive knowledge of Earth and attacks him forcing him to command Teal'c to destroy the location now holding the Antarctic gate.
Qetesh wants to know the secrets of Baal's knowledge but when Teal'c interrupts, Quetesh is forced to kill Baal. She orders Cronus to begin bombarding Earth. With Baal dead and Quetesh in command, Teal'c escapes with the intention of avenging Baal and commands an Al'kesh in stealth mode. He must make it to Praxis before Qetesh.
With McMurdo Air Force base destroyed, SG-1's plans to travel to Proclarush Taonas and find the ZPM to power the Atlantus Outpost are ended. SG-1 are commanded to head to Russia where the stargate from the Achilles has been recovered. After being rescued by Russian fighters from attacking Gliders, SG-1 is escorted to the gate but discover it has no power source. Before they can formulate a plan, an Al'Kesh lands on the roof of the facility and protects the building with its shields. Teal'c arrives and the team manages to convince him they are on the same side and must escape before Cronus' bombers break through his shields and destroy the building. Teal'c and his two Jaffa agree and they travel through the gate, powered by a portable power source, to Praxis, hoping to beat Qetesh there.
Praxis proves to be the home of Baal's time machine, built to take advantage of a solar flare's interaction with a wormhole. Baal has built a network of satellites which communicate with his computer informing him of Solar flares that can pin point specific points in time. The machine proves easy to figure out but they must wait for a flare that can send them to specific point before Baal's interference. The only available time point is 1929, ten years prior to Baal's attack. Before they can activate the machine, Qetesh's Jaffa ring down and attack. Only Mitchell survives and makes it through the gate. Teal'c is shot but manages to destroy the machine and Qetesh with a grenade.
In 1939 Mitchell is on board the Achilles with another man. They await Baal's arrival. When Baal's Jaffa come through the gate, both men attack and kill Baal and his men. The bomb is never activated and Mitchell's grandfather survives to bring the Achilles and the gate to the United States.
In the present, the Tok'ra homeworld, SG-1 and O'Neill witness the extraction ceremony for Baal. The event proves anticlimactic for Mitchell and the team returns home for lunch.
