Starbase Indy is a fan-run convention held annually during Thanksgiving weekend in November in Indianapolis, Indiana. The three-day convention features guest stars from Star Trek and other realms of science fiction, a masquerade (costume contest) on Friday night, talks and demonstrations related to science and movies/television, dealers’ room, autograph sessions, photo ops, Starfleet Command meetings, a charity auction, and other activities. The 2007 convention features sessions on prop building, quantum physics, the physics of Star Trek and the ethics of Star Trek.
Dates for 2007 are November 23 through 25. Guest stars for 2007 are Ray Park, known as Darth Maul in Star Wars and Toad in X-Men; David Reddick, artist and creator of The Trek Life; and Luke Ski.
Starbase Indy began in 1988 and ran for eight years before then-owners Mike & Shari Morey decided to call it quits. A professional company then put on conventions in Indianapolis until 2004, when a group of fans decided to bring back a fan-run convention. The revival uses the Enterprise bridge set built in 1988 for the stage.
Starbase Indy is a nonprofit organization that conducts charity auctions during the weekend to aid selected charities, and the Marines land at Starbase Indy to collect Toys for Tots.
