Star Wars is an epic movie saga in the space opera genre, created and produced by George Lucas, who also wrote many of the scripts and directed the first (1977) and last films in the series (1999, 2002, 2005). Lucas was heavily influenced by the mythologist, Joseph Campbell, referring to him as "my Yoda." The first film in the series, Star Wars hit movie screens in 1977, and was later reissued with a changed title: Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope. The series currently stands at six films total, along with truckloads of associated toys, novels, and television.
