Star Trek also known as Star Trek XI is the 11th film in the Star Trek franchise.
The film is directed by J.J. Abrams and written by the writing team of Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci using the original series characters. It is being billed by the studio as a re-imagining of the franchise much like the Sci Fi Channel did with its re-imagining of Battlestar Galactica. The film's budget is estimated at $135 million dollars. Special effects will be provided by ILM
The film was initially scheduled for a Christmas 2008 release. However, in February, 2008 Paramount pushed the film's release to May 2009 hoping to maximize the film's gross potential.
