Stanley Donen

<span class="SFPTagline"> From SCIFIPEDIA </span>

Stanley Donen (April 13, 1924 Columbia, South Carolina - ) is an American director.

Best known to mainstream audiences as the director of some of Hollywood's most classic musicals (Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, Singin' in the Rain), Donen has also done some genre work.

Two of his works dealt with the devil, although not in pitchfork and brimstone mode. Damn Yankees! brought Ray Walston's Mr. Applegate from Broadway to the big screen. The original 1967 version of Bedazzled showed us Peter Cook as a believable tempter...one could understand why Dudley Moore's Stanley Moon might even feel sympathy for him.

In 1974, he brought his light touch to the charming animated version of The Little Prince, which received two Oscar nominations.

Not as lauded was his 1980 straight-up Sci Fi thriller, Saturn 3 (with Farah Fawcett, Kirk Douglas and Harvey Keitel), although it was "honored" with three Razzie nominations (Worst Actor, Worst Actress, and Worst Picture).
