Splash is a 1984 fantasy film directed by Ron Howard. Daryl Hannah plays a mermaid, Madison, who falls in love with human, Allen Bauer (Tom Hanks) whom she saved from drowning when he was a child. Now both adults, she visits him in New York. Maddison explores Allen's strange world but her secret gets in the way of their romance as she sprouts fins whenever she gets wet and is in danger from those wishing to capitalize on her existence. The film was nominated for an Academy Award for its screenplay and Daryl Hannah won a Saturn Award for her performance.
