Speaker for the Dead is a 1986 novel by Orson Scott Card. The novel is the second in Card's Ender Wiggins series. It is followed by Xenocide. Speaker for the Dead is set 3000 years after the events of Ender's Game but nevertheless features Ender as the main protagonist now calling himself Andrew, his real name. Andrew is only thirty-five years old and has traveled the galaxy performing community-healing ceremonies for the dead. Andrew claims that humanity made a mistake in destroying the alien civilization that invaded Earth in the previous novel. Now he has the opportunity to atone for his part in the extermination of the buggers by finding an alien hive queen he carries, a home. But nothing is quite that simple and Ender faces opposition from the Galactic Federation.
