A space opera is a form of science fantasy that focuses on character development and the personal relationships of those involved in a broadly themed story arc. A now-defunct term for this sub-genre in the 1940s and 1950s was science fiction romance.
It often employs traditional archetypes of heroes and villains, without focusing on hard science. Faster-than-light travel is a technology that is assumed to work, with little explanation provided for it. Space opera provides a thrill ride rich in storytelling and plot, and well seasoned with wish-fulfillment action.

It's usually best to give a very general overview to a story first, then plot details. When including the plot or essential details in your article (which could ruin the pleasure of discovery for some readers), it is important to include the spoiler tag before any give-away material.
