South Korea or, officially, Republic of Korea is an Asian country located on the southern half of the Korean Peninsula. The country is bordered on the north by North Korea. The two countries were once united but became a separate entity in 1945. The country's capital is the city of Seoul, one of the most populous metropolitan areas in the world and a vital part of the Asian economy.
South Korea is also home to an increasingly influential entertainment industry. With such releases as The Host (Gwoemul) and Siworae (remade into The Lake House) Korean film has made an international splash. Several Korean-born actors have also been introduced to western audiences; of these, Yunjin Kim known for her role on the series Lost and James Kyson Lee of Heroes are probably the best known.
