Sonny Whitelaw (b. August 9, 1956), Sydney, Australia) is an American author best known for his work on Stargate tie-in novels. Whitelaw grew up in the suburbs of Sydney and attended Sydney University where he earned his degree in Geography and Anthropology. He began a masters degree but never completed his theses on global warming and changes in sea level. He instead turned to a life on the ocean, running a sail boat and dive operation in the South Pacific. His later work as a staff writer and and freelance photojournalist led to a career in adventure tourism.

It wasn't until the 1990s that Whitelaw turned to fiction, ironically after being encouraged by friends to complete his thesis. His first novel, was the factional eco-thriller, The Rhesus Factor which won a Draco Award for Excellence in Science Fiction. He followed up with The Ark Ship. In 2005, he was asked to write a proposal for a novel based on the TV series Stargate SG-1. His proposal led to Stargate SG-1: City of the Gods. Other contributions to the franchise include Stargate Atlantis: The Chosen, Stargate Atlantis: Exogenesis, Stargate SG-1: Roswell, with Jennifer Fallon and Stargate Atlantis: Blood Ties with Elizabeth Christensen.
