Sharon Shinn (b. 1957 Wichita, Kansas - ) is an American author known for fantasy and science fiction romance novels. Shinn is a journalist and graduate of Northwestern University. She won the William C. Crawford Award for Outstanding New Fantasy Writer.
Shinn expressed an interest in writing early in life. She wrote her first novel at 20. She acknowledges influence from classic romance author Georgette Heyer. Among her favorite authors are Anne McCaffrey, Patricia McKillip, Robin McKinley and Peter Beagle.
