Shannyn Marie Kahoolani Sossamon (b. October 3, 1978, Honolulu, Hawaii) is an American actor raised in Reno, Nevada. Sossamon changed her first name from Shannon to Shannyn in her teens. Sossamon intended to pursue a career in dance in Los Angeles and also began performing as a D.J. and occasionally in commercials. She was encouraged to audition for film roles by a casting agent and landed her first film role in A Knight's Tale opposite Heath Ledger. She followed up with 40 Days and 40 Nights alongside Josh Hartnett and The Rules of Attraction with James Van Der Beek. In 2003 she appeared alongside Ledger once again in the religious horror feature, The Order.
After roles in the films Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, Wristcutters: A Love Story, and the horror film Catacombs, Sossamon turned to television. In 2007, she appeared in the FX series, Dirt and took on a recurring role on the CBS series Moonlight.
