Shadows is a 1992 horror novel by John Saul.
Synopsis
When ten-year-old genius, Josh MacCallum, has difficulty in regular school and attempts suicide, his mother jumps at the opportunity to enroll him in a boarding school filled with students just like himself. The Northern California school, known simply as the Academy, seems like a dream come true and is run by the aloof Dr. Engersol. Josh makes friends quickly but when a fellow 12-year-old student kills himself and his brother begins behaving oddly, it becomes clear that the school is not all it seems and Dr. Engersol's program may be behind the suicide.
